Studi Fenomenologi Upasika Buddhis Dalam Mengikuti Latihan Atthasilani di Wisma Vippasana Kusalacitta Bekasi

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limitations of studies that in-depth reveal the subjective experiences of lay Buddhists, especially upāsikā, in participating in Atthasilani training. Most previous studies have emphasized the normative aspects and general benefits of religious practice, leaving gaps in understanding the meaning of individual experiences. This study aims to describe subjective experiences and identify the motives behind upāsikā's participation in Atthasilani training. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method referring to the thinking of Alfred Schutz, through interviews, observation, and documentation techniques with participants at Wisma Vipassana Kusalacitta Bekasi. The results show that the motives for participation are diverse, including the desire to deepen the teachings, self-development, the search for inner peace, and the use of free time. The experiences experienced by participants occurred gradually, starting from unfamiliarity, then a process of adaptation, until reaching a deeper spiritual meaning. Practically, the research results can form the basis for developing more contextual spiritual development programs. The limitations of this study lie in the limited number of participants and locations, so further research with a wider scope is needed
